From the left entrance of this rapid, the water will wash up against large flat boulder on the left and flow through a channel between the rock and a ledge hole on the right.

The rapid is navigable from the right side of the river as well, although it will require some creative maneuvering to avoid a pinned raft. This right hand line is called the Pencil Sharpener and is more like a Class IV as there are some undercut rocks just downstream of the crux move.
